■REVIEWS
Una sbirciata all'equipaggiamento impiegato nell'allestimento di "Radiance"
e subito si notano, insieme a piu comuni oggetti trovati, pianoforte, varia
elettronica, chitarra etc., un laptop sentimentale e field recordings malinconiche
(del resto The Beautiful Schizophonic, al quale vengono accreditati, titolava
un recente album per l'appunto "Musicamorosa"). A porre l'enfasi
sull'aspetto affettivo-emozionale della collaborazione con Onodera, in
particolare su quelle remote spirali melodiche che volteggiano con grazia
nel farsi largo attraverso la generale fuliggine ambient-drone.
BLOW UP (SEPTEMBER 2009) ITLY
Few composers of modern music produce works that are continually awe-inspiring,
captivating, and original as Yui Onodera and The Beautiful Schizophonic.
Their collaborative work 'Radiance', offers an absolute experience of tenderly-crafted,
hidden elegance, audible and pure instrumentation, and field recording
realism. 'Radiance' breathes with lightness, and most importantly, majesty.
celer
I can clearly remember my first experiences of hearing Harold Budd's work,
in particular his collaborations with The Cocteau Twins ('The Moon and
The Melodies') and Brian Eno ('The Pearl'). What caught my attention was
how these albums captured a deep sense of almost unearthly spirit more
so than any other music I had heard before and perhaps since. There are
too few artists around today who have the ability (and perhaps even desire)
to capture this, yet here I sit listening to 'Radiance' by Yui Onodera
and The Beautiful Schizophonic, with the exact same feelings I had when
first hearing Budd's mighty work. Its an album which is as majestic, beautiful
and wholly not of this world as its cover (by the very talented Danielle
Baquet-Long). The excellent French label Basses Frequencies has released
a work both divine and unashamedly soulful, an album for the little moments
in life when things are allowed to be timeless.
